Healthy Brushing Habits

Throughout my childhood, I constantly remember my mom asking, “Did you brush your teeth?” as I rushed out the door. It’s funny how something so simple and quick is seen as such a hassle as a child, but it is so imperative and affects your teeth for the rest of your life. Check out this top healthy tooth-brushing habits to keep your pearly whites in tip top shape:

Timing

Make sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day, three is even better. Brushing after meals is great, because you can remove food that can harm your teeth if left stuck between them. Brush for three minutes. I know, that seems like forever when you’re doing it, but it is important for the health of your teeth. Try listening to a song or watching a Youtube video to pass the time.

Toothpaste

Using the right kind and amount of toothpaste can highly affect the health of your teeth. Fluoride toothpaste is amazing! It not only helps remove plaque, it also helps strengthen tooth enamel. However, it’s important to note that fluoride toothpaste should not be swallowed, as ingesting too much can have serious health consequences. Squeeze only a pea sized portion of toothpaste onto your brush. Applying too much toothpaste can lead to too many suds, which makes you want to spit and finish too early. Plus, it increases the chance of you swallowing more fluoride toothpaste.

Hard To Reach Areas

Make sure to brush all of your teeth, especially those that are a little difficult to get to. Get those molars! Don’t forget the inside of your teeth as well. Face the toothbrush so that the head of the toothbrush is pointing towards your gum line.
